The Mushbox Mini Upgrade OptionOne of the most successful methods for cultivating a large amount of mushrooms in a small space is to use a casing method. Casing is when you use different substrate materials and create layers for the mycelium to feed off and grow into. Once the mycelium has created a large enough mass and gained enough nutrients it will be ready to fruit into mushrooms. Straw, soil, and casing starter is all you need to grow a variety of mushrooms.When using a casing method to grow mushrooms you still need to start with fully colonized mycelium. So you need to start with a substrate jar or mushroom grow bag that has already been inoculated and fully colonized, the Mushbox Mini upgrade comes with a rye grain jar. Once you have the mycelium you can break it up and mix it with the straw, this is your first layer of the casing. You want this layer to be approx. one inch and with no pieces of straw sticking up , make it as even and flast as possible, but at the same time you do not want to compress it do much.
